A Happy Family Home

Nestled on the picturesque coastal suburb of Bonbeach, home owners – and busy parents – Nick and wife Rach found their forever family home. 

The family’s new Bonbeach home has everything Rach, Nick and their boys Byron (9), Brodie (6), Louie (4) need and so much more.

We chatted with Rachel to learn more about the family’s dreamy outdoor retreat.

Q. Tell us a little bit about what your top priorities were when you were looking for your home?

After so many months spent in lockdown, we really wanted a home that felt spacious, with an outdoor space that was designed for year-round entertaining.

Q. Can you share with us your top three tips for designing an outdoor space that feels just as welcoming as the indoors?

Keep it simple, clean and some super comfy outdoor furniture for lounging is key!

Q. What’s your go-to alfresco dish?

Like most Australian families, a burger with the lot is a favourite in our house. It’s all about achieving the perfect balance of meat, veg, cheese and sauce – no fancy tricks here. Sometime on the weekends, I'll whip up bacon and eggs on the barbecue for the kids, but Nick is touts the best slowed cooked lamb shanks inMelbourne, which he fry's off on the BBQ and then finishes in the smoker.

Q. Tell us about the aesthetic for your outdoor space?

The intention was to create a seamless connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces. We wanted an outdoor area that felt spacious and bright, so we opted for an all-white palette, including the batten fence and chose limestone pavers over grass for minimal maintenance. The all-white look gives off modern coastal vibe, whilst also keeping the outdoor area cool when the sun beats down in the Summer months. To bring the space to life, we added lots of lush greenery.

Q. What does life outdoors mean to you?

Quality time with family and friends, whether it’s coming together for a long meal or going for a dip in the pool. Our outdoor area is our favourite space, we’ve already made so many special memories in the short time we’ve lived here.

Q. Tell us your must-haves for the perfect outdoor space?

An outdoor kitchen is a must. If you love spending time outdoors all year round like we do, I’d also suggest investing in outdoor heating, there’s nothing better than snuggling up next to a heater in the colder months. Lastly, garden lights for a bit of ambience.
